At East West School, we believe becoming an herbalist is not defined by how much information you accumulate, but by the depth of the relationships you cultivate—with plants, the land, the seasons, your senses, herbal traditions, and the people you serve.

Our role is not simply to teach you about plants. Our role is to help you develop the knowledge, skills, habits, and relationships that allow you to continue learning from the plants for the rest of your life.

Why We Gather Every Year

For decades, the East West School has gathered students each autumn for an in-person seminar—a tradition established by Michael Tierra that we are honored to continue.

We don’t gather because there are always new plants to learn. We gather because there are always new ways to learn from them.

Each year focuses on a different practical theme, allowing us to revisit medicinal plants from a fresh perspective while strengthening another essential aspect of herbal practice.

At East West School, we believe herbal medicine isn’t only something we prepare in the apothecary. It’s something we live every day.

One of the experiences students consistently tell us they remember most isn’t simply the food itself. It’s discovering how easy—and how delicious—it can be to bring medicinal plants into everyday meals.

Many students arrive thinking medicinal herbs belong in tinctures, teas, or capsules. After spending a few days tasting seasonal dishes prepared with fresh herbs and vegetables from our farm, something shifts. They begin to see medicinal plants differently—not as special ingredients used occasionally…But as foods they can confidently grow, cook, and enjoy every day.

For many students, this becomes one of the first practical changes they make after returning home. They start planting more herbs. They begin cooking with medicinal plants. They experiment with seasonal recipes. And little by little, herbal medicine becomes part of daily life rather than something reserved for special occasions.

That is exactly what we hope you’ll take home. Not simply recipes—but the confidence to begin.

🌿 Fresh from Our Organic Farm

From Friday through Sunday, enjoy farm-to-table breakfasts, lunches, and dinners prepared with certified organic vegetables, medicinal herbs, edible flowers, and seasonal ingredients harvested from Herb Whisperer Organic Farm.

Each meal is thoughtfully designed to demonstrate how medicinal plants can be incorporated into everyday cooking in ways that are practical, nourishing, and delicious.

🍜 Traditional Chinese Food as Medicine

Throughout the weekend, Holly Wu will introduce some of her favorite traditional Chinese food-as-medicine recipes, family cooking techniques, seasonal dietary wisdom, and the cultural stories behind these dishes.

Rather than focusing on elaborate recipes, Holly will show you simple, practical ways to incorporate medicinal herbs into meals you can confidently prepare at home.

Because one of the most effective ways to deepen your relationship with plants is to welcome them into your everyday kitchen.

Payment Terms & Conditions

Registration

Your place is confirmed upon receipt of full payment.

Enrollment is limited to ensure a high-quality, hands-on learning experience. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Program Registration

Because this seminar is intentionally limited in size to provide a high-quality learning experience, the following cancellation policy applies to the seminar registration fee:

• More than 60 days before the seminar: Full refund, less a $75 administrative fee.
• August 23, 2026 and earlier (30–60 days before the seminar): 50% of the program registration fee will be refunded.
• August 24, 2026 or later (less than 30 days before the seminar): Program registration fees are non-refundable.

If you are unable to attend, your registration may be transferred to another participant with prior written approval from East West School.

Accommodation & Farm-to-Table Meal Package

Accommodation and meal reservations are made specifically for each participant and require advance commitments.

• Until August 23, 2026: Accommodation and meal payments are fully refundable.
• August 24, 2026 or later: Accommodation and meal payments are non-refundable, unless your reserved space can be filled by another participant.

If your registration is transferred to another participant, your accommodation and meal reservation may also be transferred, subject to availability and approval.

Seminar Cancellation

If East West School cancels the seminar, all registration fees will be refunded in full.

East West School is not responsible for airfare, accommodation, or other travel-related expenses.

Additional Information

• The seminar is designed as a complete learning experience; individual sessions cannot be purchased separately.
• Photos and short videos may be taken during the seminar for educational and promotional purposes. Please let us know at check-in if you prefer not to appear.
• Please notify us in advance of any dietary restrictions, allergies, or accessibility needs so we can do our best to accommodate you.
