Welcome to the East West School of Herbology, serving budding and serious herbalists since 1980. Started by Michael and Lesley Tierra and operated by them until 2023, the school is now owned and run by Thomas Avery Garran, celebrated by Michael Tierra as one of his most accomplished students. While there have been and will continue to be some changes with the new ownership, the school is essentially the same, focusing on training from beginning (the Home Herbalist Course) to advanced (the Professional Herbalist Course). This is our introductory course taught by experienced and respected herbalists, Lesley Tierra and Thomas Avery Garran. The course offers an introduction to herbal medicine with a focus on the basics of the ancient healing arts of China.
This is our Professional Course (36 Lessons) for those considering entering the herb profession as a practitioner or any of the other excellent opportunities that exist in the herb industry.

The Herb Whisperer Learning Center, led by internationally recognized herbalist Dr. Thomas Avery Garran, PhD, starts from the ground up, literally, with our extensive experience from cultivation to clinical application of medicinal plants. We offer a variety of online classes and courses, including one-on-one online mentorship, and, coming soon, in-person apprenticeship. We have chosen a team of teachers to join Dr. Garran and his more than 30 years of experience in the herbal medicine field to provide professional teaching by experienced teachers. Our classes and courses include classes for farmers, seasoned herbalists, and beginners alike.

As the caretakers of the East West School of Herbology, one of the oldest and most respected schools of herbology in North America, we have decades of experience in the field, both as practitioners and as teachers and mentors to some of the most well-known herbalists in the world.
